Maximising the value of technology within real constraints

It is often assumed that high-performing AI is enough to solve problems in the field. In practice it is not. On site, the required accuracy and performance must be achieved within constraints — limited cost and power, existing equipment, network conditions and processing time.Beyond that, technology only becomes value if the system runs reliably, collects the data you need without loss, and keeps being updated and improved after deployment. Since our founding, Idein has developed not only the AI but the devices, communications, software and operations around it, so that technology becomes value that keeps working in the field.

AI that perceives and controls physical space

AI on the device turns the reality captured by cameras and sensors into meaning, and controls the site based on the result. The whole pipeline, from perception to control, runs on inexpensive devices.

Why Raspberry Pi

We deliberately chose an inexpensive, globally standard device over special-purpose hardware. Our belief — run it cheaply, everywhere, without stopping — is embodied in the hardware choice itself.

Rather than depending on dedicated hardware, we build on the inexpensive Raspberry Pi available worldwide, so the same setup can reach any site.

A mature, rich ecosystem

Widely used, with documentation, community and peripherals readily available. This limits procurement, maintenance and expansion risk, and stands up to long-term operation.

And on top of it, fast inference

Starting with our use of the GPU (VideoCore), we have accumulated proprietary optimisation techniques that draw performance out of limited computing resources.
