Trial at the Sogo Omiya store
Idein, together with Sogo & Seibu Co., Ltd., is running a trial using AI cameras at the Sogo Omiya store.
Background
By estimating customer attributes (age group and gender) and analyzing in-store movement from camera footage, the trial aims to support improvements in product assortment, layout design, and congestion mitigation.
Privacy considerations
Facial feature data is converted into a code and discarded immediately inside the camera. Extracted data is also erased within 24 hours using a method that makes it unrecoverable, and only aggregate statistical information is used, so no personally identifiable information is included.

- Period: May 30 – November 14, 2023 (changed from the originally planned start date of May 18)
- Location: Sogo Omiya store (2nd floor entrance, basement 1st floor)
- Number of cameras installed: 13
