Launch of an edge AI camera package co-developed with KDDI
Idein, in a joint development with KDDI Corporation, began offering the KDDI IoT Cloud Standard “Edge AI Camera Package” on June 9, 2021. The package performs AI analysis of camera footage directly on the camera, collecting only the necessary information.
The following is reproduced from KDDI’s press release.
In retail stores, commercial facilities, and public facilities, AI cameras that analyze visitor attributes from camera images are sometimes deployed to improve operational efficiency and drive sales. Services that perform AI analysis on the cloud side typically transfer the raw captured images to the cloud as-is, which increases data traffic and cost. Deployment also requires consideration of cameras, dedicated analysis servers, communication equipment, and cloud storage capacity.
This package performs AI analysis on the camera itself and sends only the necessary text data to the cloud, reducing data traffic. Because image data is deleted on the camera, it can also be used at universities, hospitals, and other locations to enhance safety and security in public spaces while protecting privacy.
In addition, because a compact camera with a built-in SIM and analysis server is provided as a set with the cloud service, installation locations and deployment costs can be kept low, making it easy to introduce.
Furthermore, since it can analyze visitor patterns across multiple stores or facilities, along with visitor age and gender information tailored to specific needs, it can help optimize advertising for customer attributes, review employee shift schedules, and improve facility layouts.
