Looking ahead to the arrival of the smart city, AISIN wanted to enter the AI camera field and bring a capable, extensible product to market early.
The challenge Idein solves
The Raspberry Pi general-purpose computer was paired with the “Hailo-8” AI accelerator chip, and Idein wrote the software that draws out its performance. Actcast then took on the remote management needed for large-scale operation, which meant AISIN did not have to build device control software from scratch. That division of labour is what made launch six months from the start of development possible.
What we did
- Joint development of the “ai cast” edge AI camera — a palm-sized product pairing Raspberry Pi with the “Hailo-8” edge AI processor
- Measured AI performance confirmed at more than 100× that of Raspberry Pi alone
- Analysis completes inside the camera, with only the resulting text data sent to the server
- Already integrated with Actcast, so data collection starts as soon as there is power and connectivity
- Brought to market six months from the start of development, covering face recognition, depth estimation, pose estimation, low-light analysis and attribute analysis
